SPLA-IO Accused of Detaining Civilian Boats, Demanding $4,000 Along Sobat River ‎

‎ Boat ferrying civilians  Nasir, Upper Nile State  ‎Authorities in Nasir County, Upper Nile State, have accused forces loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army In Opposition (SPLA-IO) of detaining civilian riverboats and demanding ransom-like payments of up to $4,000 from traders and passengers along the Sobat River. ‎ ‎According to Nasir County Commissioner James Gatwech Joak, several boats traveling from Matar in Nasir County to Malakal were intercepted by SPLA-IO soldiers in Yakuach, an area in Nyirol County, Jonglei State. ‎ ‎“Our traders paid local taxes to SPLA-IO in Mandeng before setting off. But on reaching Yakuach, they were detained again and told to pay an additional four thousand U.S. dollars,” Commissioner Gatwech said. ‎ ‎He explained that the detained boat operators and traders were reportedly held for four days while armed men demanded more payments.  ‎ Some of the passengers were women, children, and patients traveling for medical treatment in Malaka...

Person Responsible For The Killing Of 4 Warrap Workers Arrested




The suspect believed to have murdered 4  workers in Warrap State is now apprehended and he is a soldier, the workers murdered are three foreigners and a local.

The foreigners are three syrians and a local were shot and killed by the gunman in Akon, warrap State..

SSPDF Spokeman Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang confirmed that the culprit has been aprehended and he is one of his "meaning soldier".

For those of you wondering the meaning of SSPDF: The South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF), formerly the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), is the army of the Republic of South Sudan.

Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai said that the suspect's name is Private Yak Garang Yak from the Tiger Division but he refused to comment on the victims identities. 

“Our security forces went into action, and they were able to arrest the culprit. He was identified as Private Yak Garang Yak Yak. He is an SSPDF soldier from Tiger Division. He is the prime suspect in the killing of four individuals, three foreign nationals and one South Sudanese,” Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai said.

The soldier is being detained at Wunyiik army headquarters of the army third division infantry, Lul noted. 

The question we are asking our self why did he kill those workers, what is his intentions as a SSPDF soldier? 

Maj. Gen. Lul answered and said that his intentions are clear behind the killings but thorough investigation is being conducted..

“As we speak, plans are underway for him to be transported to Juba, and on the same line, the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Santino Deng Wol, has already initiated paperwork aimed at the formation of an emergency court martial so that the suspect is tried and convicted here in accordance with our national laws as well as the SPLA act 2009,” Lul said.

“The formation of the court martial is the primary responsibility of the Chief of Defense Forces, but it has to be approved by His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit in his capacity as the Commander in Chief of SSPDF,” Maj. Lul Added. 

Quick information about Tiger Division: Also Known as the Presidential Guard (SSPDF Tiger Division). This division located in Juba is an SSPDF elite military unit (Dinka soldiers) and its main task is to protect President Salva Kiir.
