Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

Four South Sudan Soldiers Killed By Armed Youths In Yirol County




Four SSPDF South Sudan Army officers died on duty while battling with armed youths from Yirol County.

Other soldiers sustained injuries in the deadly clash and they are now undergoing intensive medical care said the Army spokesman. 

Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang further said that the inter-communal conflicts between Pibor, Jonglei and upper Nile armed youths resulted in the death and injuries sustained by the victim soldiers.

“On the 7th, suspected armed criminals from Pibor Administrative Area attacked our security forces that went out as individuals for fishing in the outskirts of Waat,” Maj. Gen. Lul said. 

The army spokesperson is blaming the armed youths for being responsible for the deaths and injuries of the soldiers. 

“They went for a fishing [expedition] (but) were attacked. As a result, four SSPDF forces were shot dead, and three were wounded,”Maj. Gen. Lul said. 

He went a heard and said that the same incident happened near Ngir, whereby 8 civilians were killed and 15 others nursing their injuries and countless number of Cattles stolen.

“The armed criminals were driving the cattle closer to our barrack. We intervened and were able to recover the stolen livestock, but unfortunately, the three abducted kids were slaughtered when the criminals realized that they were being secured. Two boys and one girl escaped.”- Lul said.

He finally, ended by saying that the SSPDF will always defend civilians from inter-communal conflicts and they will be stationed in hotspot areas were there is rampant inter-communal violence.
