Illegal Gold Mining: Raja County Commissioner and Two (2) State Ministers Summoned For Questioning By Lawmakers

WBGS lawmakers summoned Raja County Commissioner and two State Ministers to answer questions on illegal Gold Mining in Raja County.

WBGS Trade Minister Hon. Akol Majok was among the Ministers Summoned and the Local Government Minister Hon. Ibrahim Suru and County Commissioner Hon. Addison Arcanjelo.

The chiefs and intellectuals of Boro-Medina filed a complain that gold is being mined illegally this led to the summoning.

Hon. Khamis Abdala the area MP of Boro-Medina said the motion was tabled before the assembly earlier this year.

“On Wednesday, there was a motion, and the assembly summoned the minister of industry and mining and the minister of local government and law enforcement and the commissioner of Raja County to explain the ongoing gold mining in Raja County,” He said.

“My constituents have brought forward a complaint about insecurity and that there are foreigners from Sudan doing gold mining in Boro-Madina.”

“There are nearly 10,000 foreigners in Boro-Madina Payam currently and this has created a fear of insecurity in the county,” he added.

Boro-Medina area MP further said that the State Minister of Industry and Mining brought in five mining companies to assessthr area before any mining was to be carried out.

The Lawmakers further accused the County Commissioner was present when the Memorandum of understanding presented and he was the one who signed it.

“The commissioner himself is the head of the committee, and at the same time, he is the one who signed the memorandum of understanding with the companies and allocated a certain percentage to the security members in the county,” MP said.
