“This is a cycle whereby they look into issues of human rights and so forth, and in that cycle, we approved all the issues that came up in that conference except for the 25 points that were not accepted. [They were] issues to do with the abandonment of the death sentence, issues to do with the Rome Statute, and so forth,” Makuei stated.

“All these things, which were connected with other issues and were not in compliance with the laws of South Sudan, [were] all rejected,” Makuei.

He explain that the country need time to learn and understand the essence of dead sentences.

Justice Minister Hon.Ruben said that revenge killing has bred hatred and Impunity in the country and people commit crimes the way they like.

“It will be worse than that because if it is a question of going to prison in South Sudan, a death sentence and life imprisonment is 20 years, and a year in the prison is nine months,”-  said

Makuei added by saying that “So it is a very short period where you can kill somebody, spend your period, and come out, but you have already killed the person. This is why we are not for that. “We are against the lifting of the death sentence at present,” argued Makuei.
