Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

Government Urged To Deploy Troops To Jonglei and GPAA

A local official has asked the National Government to dispatch troops to all the conflict hotzones specifically Jonglei State and Greater Pibor Administrative Area to avert further conflicts in the region. 

The official calls on the government to deploy enough troops in the borders of the warring States.

Gatluak Gatkek the officials is target in Jonglei: Akobo, Nyiro, Anyidi, Duk and Bor counties too. In GPAA Greater Pibor Administrative Area: Lekuangole and Paritet.

“We need the unity government to intervene and deploy forces in all the junctions. Like the border of Akobo, Nyirol, Duk, Bor, Anyodi to the far of Paritet (counties of Jonglei State) and even the border of Lekuangole (GPAA) so as to prevent these communities,”-Gatkek

The official while speaking to the Media said the move to deploy troops in the region if implemented will give way to peace dialogues. 

“That will be the solution, because they will take the opportunity to dialogue when the army is deployed in the area. And after that, the peace will have time to prevail.”-Gatkek.

Understanding the conflict in the Jonglei State and GPAA. Traditionally, clashes between the two ethnic groups, the Lou Nuer and the Murle, have been observed in Jonglei. The conflicts occurred when one ethnic group entered territories of others to compete over scarce resources, such as land and water necessary for cattle grazing.
