SPLA-IO Accused of Detaining Civilian Boats, Demanding $4,000 Along Sobat River ‎

‎ Boat ferrying civilians  Nasir, Upper Nile State  ‎Authorities in Nasir County, Upper Nile State, have accused forces loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army In Opposition (SPLA-IO) of detaining civilian riverboats and demanding ransom-like payments of up to $4,000 from traders and passengers along the Sobat River. ‎ ‎According to Nasir County Commissioner James Gatwech Joak, several boats traveling from Matar in Nasir County to Malakal were intercepted by SPLA-IO soldiers in Yakuach, an area in Nyirol County, Jonglei State. ‎ ‎“Our traders paid local taxes to SPLA-IO in Mandeng before setting off. But on reaching Yakuach, they were detained again and told to pay an additional four thousand U.S. dollars,” Commissioner Gatwech said. ‎ ‎He explained that the detained boat operators and traders were reportedly held for four days while armed men demanded more payments.  ‎ Some of the passengers were women, children, and patients traveling for medical treatment in Malaka...

SSPDF To Share 350 Positions Between The Other Armed Parties In The Revitalized Peace Agreement

SSPDF known as South Sudan People's Defence Force agreed to divide over 350 positions with other three armed parties in the Revitalized Peace Agreement


The other armed parties are SPLM-IO and SSOA, the sharing of positions was agreed upon because of the preparation for the deployment of the Unified Forces


SSPDF Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lil Ruai while speaking to the media said that, the allocation was for the second level of the Unified forces. 


“The allocated positions for the second level of a unified command for the parties to the revitalized peace agreement.” Maj. Gen. Lul said. 


“We divided 60 per cent for SPLM-IG, 30 per cent for SPLM-IO, and 10 per cent for SSOA.”Maj. Gen. Lul added. 


“The 60 per cent for SPLM-IG  will amount to the specific number of 211 Generals and Brigadier Generals, and 30 per cent of SPLM-IO translated to a specific number of 106 Generals and Brigadier Generals, while 10 per cent of SSOA will be equivalent to specific number of 33 Generals and Brigadier Generals its will make a total number of 350 positions.” Maj. Gen. Lul explained.


Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai further said that, the other armed parties " Generals" will be divided into Organizational structure of the SSPDF. 


“In the office of the Inspector General, we have a total of 13 positions, SPLM-IG will take its positions, SPLM-IO will take 4 positions, and SSOA will take 1 position.” Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai said. 


The office of the Assistant Chief Of Defence Force For Administrative and Finance will be allocated 33 positions.


The SPLM-IG will be allocated two 2 Positions and SPLM-IO will be allocated Ten 10 Positions and SSOA will take the other Tem 10 Positions. 


Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai further said that: “We are waiting from the peace parties of SPLM-IO, SSOA to submit a list of their generals and brigadier generals to absorb them into the national army,” Maj. Gen. Lul said. 


“The deployment process for the forces will be mixed, as forces from the Equatoria regions will be deployed in Bahr el Ghazal, and forces from the Bahr el Ghazal will be deployed in Upper Nile, and so on.” Maj. Gen. Lul explained.


 How Positions Will Be Shared


  • -60 per cent for SPLM-IG


  • – 30 per cent for SPLM-IO


  • -10 per cent for SSOA


  • -211 generals and brigadier Generals for SPLM-IG


  • 106 generals and brigadier generals for SPLM-IO


  • 33 generals and brigadier generals for SSOA
