Nineteen '19' year old woman committed suicide in Lakes State, Rumbek East County

  The local police of Lakes State confirmed that a 19 year old woman committed suicide in the County of Rumbek East in the village of Meen-Wal and the police withheld the deceased name for unknown reason.  This is not the first time for the young girls to commit suicide in the State, the first case was reported to the authorities  two days ago after a young girl committed suicide in Wulu County.  While speaking to the Media, Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makwach said that, the police are conducting thorough investigation on why there is a rampant rise of suicide amongst girls in Lakes State.  “We have recorded several cases of suicide with the most recent being a 19-year-old girl who committed a suicide in Meen-wal village in Rumbek East County and the investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the suicide because the cases are rising. President Kiir appealed to the citizens of Wau to embrace the spirit of peace and reconciliation to foster development and also prepare for the general election after the transitional period. 


President Kiir has directed the Minister of Roads Bridges to construct a 60 km tarmac road within Wau town.

"I have noticed the condition of your roads, since we are working on road development, we have constructed Juba-Bor road that connects Malakal to Ayod and Renk. With this,I now direct the Minister of Roads and Bridges to tarmac roads within Wau town" President Kiir said during a public rally in Wau. 


President Kiir further stated that he introduced free education to eradicate illiteracy rate in the country particularly girl child education.


“No child should stay at home without being taken to school, I urged you to take all the children to school especially girls. Girls are no longer sold for high bride price but must go to school and contribute to development of the country." President Kiir reiterated  


Governor of Western Bhar El Ghazal state, Sarah Cleto Rial said the citizens of Wau are in solidarity with the President adding that there is peace and stability in the state.


Hon. Sarah thanked President Kiir for prioritising free education in the country and stated there is need to refurbish old schools and hospitals. 


The Governor also appealed to the national government to increase capacity building for young people and women.
