Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

President Kiir appealed to the citizens of Wau to embrace the spirit of peace and reconciliation to foster development and also prepare for the general election after the transitional period. 


President Kiir has directed the Minister of Roads Bridges to construct a 60 km tarmac road within Wau town.

"I have noticed the condition of your roads, since we are working on road development, we have constructed Juba-Bor road that connects Malakal to Ayod and Renk. With this,I now direct the Minister of Roads and Bridges to tarmac roads within Wau town" President Kiir said during a public rally in Wau. 


President Kiir further stated that he introduced free education to eradicate illiteracy rate in the country particularly girl child education.


“No child should stay at home without being taken to school, I urged you to take all the children to school especially girls. Girls are no longer sold for high bride price but must go to school and contribute to development of the country." President Kiir reiterated  


Governor of Western Bhar El Ghazal state, Sarah Cleto Rial said the citizens of Wau are in solidarity with the President adding that there is peace and stability in the state.


Hon. Sarah thanked President Kiir for prioritising free education in the country and stated there is need to refurbish old schools and hospitals. 


The Governor also appealed to the national government to increase capacity building for young people and women.

72 Dr. Riek Machar Bodyguards Freed After Six Months in Detention, One Dies in Custody and 22 Hospitalized

‎Juba, September 24, 2025  Seventy-two bodyguards of First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar were released on Wednesday from the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) detention facility at Giada in Juba, after spending 178 days in custody. ‎ ‎The development was confirmed by Nyenagwek Manayom, Executive Director in Dr. Machar’s office, who said the guards had been held since March this year. ‎ ‎According to Nyenagwek, one of the detainees, Luka Gathok, died while in custody.  ‎ Out of those released, 22 are currently receiving treatment at Juba Teaching Hospital, highlighting concerns over the conditions of their detention. ‎ ‎Despite the release, four of Machar’s senior bodyguards remain in custody. General Education Minister and President Salva Kiir.  ‎President Salva Kiir Mayardiit has been briefed by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction on the latest Primary School Examination results an important step in assessing the progress of South Sudan’s education system. ‎ ‎The official release of the results is expected next week, but early insights shared during the briefing paint a mixed picture.
