‎A senior opposition army officer has left his group and joined the government army in South Sudan. Brigadier General Adnan Alex Boboya, who was part of the SPLA-IO (the main opposition army), said he has decided to support peace and work with the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), which is the national army. ‎ ‎Speaking in Yei River County, Gen. Boboya said, “I am doing this for the good of my people and my country. It is time for peace. We, as soldiers, should protect our communities, not fight them.” ‎ ‎Government army leaders welcomed him and encouraged other opposition fighters to stop fighting and talk about peace. ‎ ‎This comes just days after over 600 SPLA-IO soldiers also joined the government side. ‎ ‎But some people are worried that these changes could cause more problems for the peace agreement signed in 2018 between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.  ‎ ‎There are also reports that Riek Machar is being kept at home and not allowed to move...

I Did Not Steal 12 Million SSP Out Of The Parliamentary Chest,Jemma Nunu Kemba Said

Speaker Of The Transitional National
Legislative Assembly
 Nunu Kemba

TOP TRENDING NEWS TODAY:

The Speaker of Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Jemma Nunu Kumba 'TNLA' said that she did not in any way try to steal the alleged 12 Million South Sudanese Pounds Out of the Parliamentary Chest.

Few weeks ago, SPLM-IO, Member of Parliament Hon. Juol Nhomngek Daniel said that the speaker of the National Transitional Legislative Assembly tried to swindle 12 million SSP out of the parliament.

While addressing the parliamentarians, speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba said the 12 Million in Question was supposed to be used to buy air tickets and allowances of the members of the Pan African Parliament.

“This money was for the members of the Pan African Parliament, for their (air) tickets. So, it was just taken out of context because, first of all, what does the speaker have to do with money of administration,” Nunu said. “You can go to the administration and they will tell you exactly what the money was used for because I know I approved the travel of the MPs and it is the administration that processed the tickets and the allowances for the MPs to travel. So you can go to the administration and confirm this information.” Nunu said.

The same month, John Agany Deng the head of the Specialized Committee On Information At The TNLA, defended Speaker Nunu Kemba by saying the alleged 12 Million SSP was used to buy air ticks for the members in the East Africa Legislative Assembly ''EALA''.

Members of the East Africa Legislative Assembly denied of being given any money from the Transitional Government Of National Unity ''TNLA''.

Again she refuted this allegation, in her defense Speaker Kumba said that Nhomngek is only playing his role as an opposition law maker, it is his work to always accuse and suspect.

“Sometimes, I do not want to talk about those things because they are baseless. The honourable member you are talking about is from the opposition, and I think that is the background he is coming from,” she said.

She also accused the media: “You, the media, have been publishing these allegations without even coming to confirm from the parliament what the truth is. He (Nhomngek) goes to Eye Radio, he goes to City Review and puts these allegations on the paper, and you go ahead and publicize them,” Kumba charged. “It is also a bit inappropriate for you to publish defamatory information about the speaker, and then you come now and ask whether it is true or not. What difference will it make?”

“I think you need to correct that so that this thing can come to an end.” Nunu said.

“We have extended the hall to take 540 people, but it still will not accommodate the two houses. At the gate where you entered, there is ongoing construction, and we are putting up another big hall, another big tent like Freedom Hall there,” Kumba said.

“We do not have to commute to Freedom Hall all the time so that our sittings are not affected when there are other functions like the Governors’ Forum and other national events. We shall have our own so that we concentrate on our work.” Nunu said.

“Sometimes we can go for two weeks without sitting because Freedom Hall is occupied by other government functions, so give us another two, three months and you will be very impressed.” Nunu said.
