Police Officer Shot Dead, Gun Stolen While Guarding KCSE Exam Papers in Turkana ‎

Turkana County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi. ‎A police officer was shot dead in cold blood on Monday morning while guarding Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers in Turkana County.  ‎ The tragic incident occurred at Kang’atotha area, Turkana Central, where officers had been deployed to provide security during the ongoing national examinations. ‎ ‎According to police reports, the slain officer was part of a team assigned to escort and guard examination materials at a local school. Witnesses said the attack happened shortly after dawn when unknown assailants ambushed the officer. ‎President Kiir, UN Peacekeeping Chief Discuss Strengthening UNMISS Support Amid Global Budget Cuts ‎

‎JUBA, October 17, 2025 

President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday held talks with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, focusing on strengthening cooperation between South Sudan and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

‎During the meeting in Juba, the two leaders reviewed the country’s peace and security situation and discussed ways to enhance UNMISS’s role in supporting the ongoing peace process.

‎Lacroix acknowledged the financial constraints currently affecting UN peacekeeping operations globally, noting that UNMISS is also facing significant budget cuts. 

However, he assured President Kiir that the UN remains committed to sustaining its support for peace and stability in South Sudan.

‎He reaffirmed that UNMISS will continue working closely with the government to promote reconciliation, protect civilians, and facilitate humanitarian access in line with its mandate.

‎The meeting comes at a time when the transitional government is working to consolidate peace and prepare the country for its first post-independence elections.
