13 Killed in Jonglei Clashes Over Disputed Fishing Ground.

‎Jonglei State, South Sudan. At least 13 people have been killed and more than 20 others injured in renewed communal clashes between the Hol and Ayual communities in Jonglei State, officials confirmed on Thursday. ‎ ‎The deadly fighting broke out on Wednesday at Bioth-Agany Fishing Island, a disputed area between Duk and Twic East counties, after armed youth from the Hol community of Duk reportedly launched an attack on the island currently claimed by the Ayual community of Twic East. ‎ ‎Twic East County Commissioner Juach Arok Juach stated that seven people from his community were killed, seven others wounded, and four remain missing. He added that Hol youth are still occupying the area and tensions remain high. ‎ ‎On the other side, Duk County Commissioner John Chatim confirmed six deaths and 14 injuries among the Hol community.  ‎ ‎“We are urging our youth to cease fighting and allow the government to take over the matter and investigate. President Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday received briefing from the peace dissemination tour that was spearheaded by Governor of Central Equatoria State, Hon. Emmanuel Adil Anthony, across the State.


Hon. Adil asserted that his administration's has embarked on a robust peace campaign to disseminate the message of peace to the communities as well as the Government’s plans to reinforce on the immediate return of the cattle herders into their places of origin as per the Presidential executive Orders.


The Governor also stated that the ongoing road network expansion has enhanced road connectivity from Juba City to other major Towns across the Country.


President Kiir applauded the Governor's initiative on peace dissemination and calls for harmony within the communities of Central Equatoria State especially the Bari Community following the recent standoff.


Emmanuel Adil Anthony is a South Sudanese politician and the governor of Central Equatoria State since June 29th, 2020. Adil is an ethnic Kakwa. President Kiir appointed Adil as the governor of Yei River State on February 16, 2018, replacing David Lokonga Moses.
