Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

President Kiir recently sacked the National Defense Minister in a move that raised 'eyebrows' and questions from the netizens. 


Angelina Teny, the dismissed Defense Minister is also the wife of SPLM-IO Leader Dr. Riek Machar, she was also a leading figure in the SPLM-IO Faction. 


The dismissal of the defense minister triggered the president to also swap the two positions, handing over the Interior Ministry position to SPLM-IO and taking over the Defense Ministry position. 


The move by President Kiir to sack and swap the two ministries was seen as a 'blatant' violation of the 2018 Peace Agreement. 


Now just last week, President Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar met in an attempt to reach an agreement but it failed to reach a breakthrough. 


National Minister Of Cabinet Affairs Dr. Elia Martin while speaking to the media revealed what led to the sacking of the Defense Minister. 


"His [Kiir] concern is the fact that these forces that are now unified, are now called the unified forces, are now under the command of one person, that is the commander in chief, who is the president," Dr. Elia said. 


"He realized that the timescale for the implementation of the roadmap is very tight, and yet the ministry of defense is one of those ministries that are fundamental to provide the ground for the establishment of the professional security sector," Dr. Elia added.


"So he wants to take charge so that when he gives orders, no one will stop what he says must be done because sometimes, you know, technocrats can undermine decisions made by a minister," Dr. Elia said. 


"But if the president is in charge, nobody will stop [decisions]. That is why he wants to take full responsibility to complete the unification of the forces, deployment of the forces, professionalization of the forces and moving on to the second phase of the cantonment, training and graduation of phase two." Dr. Elia said. 


Martin Elia Lomuro (born 28 December 1957) is a South Sudanese politician. Lomuro is currently the Minister of Cabinet Affairs in the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) as of 2022. He is also the leader of the National Agenda, a registered political party formally known as South Sudan Democratic Forum, SSSDF


Dr. Elia further said that: "This is a very simple thing for you out there. You look at it as a huge thing, but for us, it is a normal political glitch, and it is normal. It is happening everywhere, so it can be resolved either today or tomorrow or next tomorrow; it will be resolved peacefully." Dr. Elia said. 


"There is nobody from elsewhere to come and help us. We are capable of doing it. We negotiated this agreement on our own, we were supported very minor, and the president gave in many things, including the cancellation of the 32 states. He moved on to reorganize, even accepting the armed groups to come into the cantonment without their arms." Dr. Elia added. 


Dr. Elia concluded by saying that: “Nobody does it except the president whose heart is really in the safety and security of the country. We dealt with the roadmap on our own, no black or white man from anywhere. We did it on our own, and we are implementing it on our own; we are capable."

    He is showing how foolish the president behaved. Look at that language that indicates that Salva Kiir is preparing for war against the former strong army group led by Dr. Riek. What does Martin mean by " orders that can not be opposed?

‎ SSPDF Soldier  ‎Government troops from the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), backed by the Agwelek militia, have taken control of New Fangak (Phom) in Fangak County, Jonglei State, following a coordinated military offensive against forces loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in-Opposition (SPLA-IO) and the White Army. ‎ ‎Major General Paromi Angui, the SSPDF operations commander and deputy commander of Agwelek forces, confirmed the capture, stating that the operation began on May 12 and resulted in the seizure of both New Fangak town and the Alel area to its south. ‎ ‎According to Gen.
