‎Tension Rise in Malakal Amid Clashes Between Government Forces and White Army in Upper Nile ‎

 Wounded soldiers lie in bed at the general military hospital Juba.  ‎Malakal, the capital of Upper Nile State, is on edge as wounded soldiers from recent clashes in Ulang County arrive in the city, sparking fear among residents particularly from the Nuer community.  ‎ ‎The fighting, which began in February, involves the White Army, a militia group largely composed of Nuer youth, and government troops. ‎ ‎According to Maj. Gen. PRESIDENT KIIR URGES CHIEFS OF TWIC AND ABYEI COMMUNITIES TO RESOLVE DISPUTE

President Kiir on Monday met with the chiefs of Ngok Dinka and Twic communities to discuss ways to settle disputes. 


The meeting attended by Govenor of Lakes State, Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor discussed at length the issue of communal conflicts between the two communities.


Governor of Warrap State, Hon. Manhiem Bol Malek said President Kiir called on the chiefs from both Twic and Abyei to work for peace and open the roads to allow free movement of people and transportation of goods.



Hon. Manhiem said the Forces will be deployed in the buffer zones to maintain ceasation of hostilities to protect the people. 


The governor also added that the negotiation on ownership of the disputed border will be resolve later when the communities are living amicably. 


The Chief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area, Dr. Chol Deng Alaak said the two sides have pledged cessation of hostilities in the area adding that those who will violate the cessations of hostilities will be held accountable. 


Dr. Chol also added that there are other political actors who are involve in the conflict and urged them to embrace peace and work for the common interests of the two communities.
