President Kiir on Wednesday met with United States Ambassador to South Sudan Micheal J. Adler to discuss diplomatic ties and matters of mutual interest between the two countries.

The Acting Foreign Affairs And International Co-operation , Hon. Deng Dau Malek said the meeting touched on peace agreement and humanitarian assistance.

Hon. Deng Dau added that the government is addressing issue of subnational violence to attain total peace across the Country.

The American diplomat mentioned they discussed broad range of issues including US support to the people of South Sudan in areas of humanitarian assistance and the peace implementation process.

The United States laments the failure of South Sudanese leaders to implement the commitments they have made to bring peace to South Sudan and has consequently decided to end U.S. assistance for peace process monitoring mechanisms, effective July 15, as we assess next steps.

Due to the lack of sustained progress on the part of South Sudan’s leaders, and following consultation with Congress, the United States is ending support to the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring And Evaluation Commission and the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism.
