Lt. Gen. James Koang Chuol. Assistant Chief of Defence Forces For Operation and Training.

‎Tension flared in Upper Nile State on Tuesday after two national security personnel were arrested for attempting to forcibly enter Paloch Airstrip.

‎According to the State Governor, the incident triggered a brief exchange of fire, though calm was quickly restored.

‎This alarming development comes at a time when Paloch and surrounding areas are already grappling with a deteriorating security situation.

‎Over the weekend, at least seven people were killed and four others injured during a deadly attack at Paloch market in Melut County. The attackers fled the scene and remain at large.

‎Authorities have not yet released details about the motive behind the airstrip breach, but investigations are ongoing. The Governor assured the public that security has been reinforced at key locations.

‎International reactions have followed swiftly. IGAD envoys and several Western embassies, including the U.S., U.K., and the EU, have condemned the ongoing violence in Upper Nile.

‎They are urging for full adherence to the permanent ceasefire and a return to dialogue under the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

‎This series of events highlights the urgent need for stronger local security responses and renewed peace efforts to prevent further destabilization in Upper Nile State.

‎Stay tuned for more updates as the story develops.
