Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

PRESIDENT KIIR ATTENDS CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS OF 100 YEARS OF FAITH IN KUAJOK

President  Kiir  on Sunday attended the grand cross over of the 100 years of the Catholic Church in Kuajok, Warrap State. The Church has marked 100 years of its existence since it was established by the missionaries in 1923. 


The colourful "Centenary" celebrations held at the Kuajok parish were presided over by Cardinal Gaberiel Zuber Wako, Bishop of Tombura Yambio, Eduardo Hiboro and the Bishop of Wau diocese, Mathew Remijo.


The grand special mass brought different catholic dioceses in the country Including Archdiocese of Juba, Wau, Rumbek, Yei, Yambio, Malakal and Torit as well as the Archdiocese of Khartoum and El OBeid from neighbouring Sudan. 



In his remarks, President Kiir who is a staunch catholic said he was baptised in January 1961 at St. Joseph Parish, Kuajok and recognised the crucial role played by the church in areas of evangelism, education and health. 


The President also stated that he will work on construction and refurbishing of old churches and schools. 


Governor of Warrap State, Manhiem Bol Malek said the church has played an important role in bringing civilisation and christianity during the liberation struggle. 


Hon. Manhiem added that his administration is working hard to fight and curb communal violence through peaceful dialogues in restive areas of the state and neighbouring states noting that there is relative peace in the state. 


Finally, the Bishop of Wau, Mathew Remijo stated that St. Joseph Parish is a historical church that brought evangelism, education, civilisation as well as advocating for freedom of democracy to South Sudanese. 


The congregation that marked the grand cross-over in a special mass was attended by President Kiir, Vice President for Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, Speaker of the National Parliament, Jemma Nunu Kumba and other senior government officials from the state and national government.
