President Kiir Briefed on Urgent Development Needs in Greater Pibor ‎

‎President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday met with a delegation from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), where he was briefed on the critical challenges facing the region, particularly in the areas of health, education, and infrastructure.

‎The delegation was led by Chief Administrator Peter Guzulu Maze and included Members of Parliament representing GPAA.

‎The meeting, held at the State House in Juba, aimed to draw national attention to the persistent hardships affecting the people of Greater Pibor an area often marginalized in national development agendas despite its strategic significance and rich cultural heritage.

‎According to Chief Administrator Maze, access to basic services in the GPAA remains alarmingly low. Many health facilities are non-functional, schools are under-resourced, and road networks remain poorly developed or completely absent.

‎He commended President Kiir for his unwavering support to the local government and for previous interventions but stressed that more decisive action is needed to bring lasting improvements to the region.

‎The meeting also covered the activities of several companies currently operating in and around the Raad border area a zone with growing economic interest due to its location and resource potential.

‎The delegation expressed concern over the lack of regulatory oversight and called on the national government to ensure that local communities are not sidelined but instead actively benefit from investments and trade activities happening in their region.

‎In his remarks, President Kiir reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, and inclusive development across all parts of South Sudan.

‎He emphasized that the government is fully aware of the historical neglect experienced by the GPAA and is determined to correct that through strategic support and meaningful partnerships.

‎"This government is for all South Sudanese, regardless of where they come from. The people of Greater Pibor deserve to live in dignity, with access to education, healthcare, and opportunities," President Kiir reportedly told the delegation.

‎The engagement marks a positive step in strengthening communication between the central government and local authorities in hard-to-reach areas.

‎As South Sudan prepares for its first post independence elections, regional equity and service delivery are expected to remain key issues in the national dialogue.

‎Greater Pibor has long been affected by insecurity, underdevelopment, and limited state presence.

‎However, recent efforts by the local leadership to attract investment and engage national authorities could pave the way for a more stable and prosperous future if matched by sustained support from Juba.
