President Kiir Walks Through Rain and Mud to Greet Supporters During Warrap Visit ‎

President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday received a rousing welcome in Warrap State, with thousands of residents turning out despite heavy rain and muddy conditions to greet the country's leader. ‎ ‎The president arrived at Tharkueng, the border point between Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal states, where large crowds had gathered along the Wau–Kuajok road awaiting his arrival. ‎ ‎In a gesture that drew cheers from supporters, Kiir stepped out of his vehicle and walked through the mud to greet residents, traditional leaders, government officials, and supporters who had assembled to welcome him. ‎ ‎Witnesses said men, women, youth, and elders endured hours of rainfall while waiting for the presidential convoy. President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday met with a delegates from Uganda headed by the State Minister Of Foreign Affairs , Henry Oryem Okello to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues.


South Sudan Acting Minister of Foreign AffairsMinister of Foreign Affairs , Hon. Deng Dau Malek said the meeting focused on a wide range of issues of bilateral relations in areas of Trade and regional issues; particularly the situation in Eastern Part of Democratic Republic of Congo.


Hon. Deng added that they also discussed issues of trade, infrastructure and free movement of goods and services between two nations. 


Ugandan state minister of Foriegn Affairs, Henry Oryem Okello said they discussed matters of mutual concern in areas of trade to allow free movement of goods and services between the two countries.  


South Sudan and Uganda are neighboring states with strong cultural economic and political ties. The South Sudan and the neighbouring state of Uganda enjoy relatively strong cultural, political, and economic ties.


The Ugandan official said the government of Uganda will support South Sudan to achieve "Sustainable Peace". 


There are multiple and longstanding ties between Uganda and South Sudan. The current civil war in South Sudan has impacted "Ugandan Politics" and economy, as well as relations between the two countries. Moreover, Uganda’s support is needed for the implementation of the negotiated settlement reached in August 2015 between the parties in the war in South Sudan. 


According to Oxfam, Uganda hosts the most refugees of any African nation – 1.2 million - and is the third refugee-hosting nation in the world. There are now 1 million South Sudanese refugees in Uganda, the vast majority of them women and children.
