13 Killed in Jonglei Clashes Over Disputed Fishing Ground.

‎Jonglei State, South Sudan. At least 13 people have been killed and more than 20 others injured in renewed communal clashes between the Hol and Ayual communities in Jonglei State, officials confirmed on Thursday. ‎ ‎The deadly fighting broke out on Wednesday at Bioth-Agany Fishing Island, a disputed area between Duk and Twic East counties, after armed youth from the Hol community of Duk reportedly launched an attack on the island currently claimed by the Ayual community of Twic East. ‎ ‎Twic East County Commissioner Juach Arok Juach stated that seven people from his community were killed, seven others wounded, and four remain missing. Minor Who Was Deliberately Blinded By Her Father In Tonj East County Has Been Airlifted To Juba For Medical Treatment

In abiook village, Tony East County, Warrap State a minor known as Mary Akuot was deliberately blinded by her father..


The minor has been airlifted by a prominent "business woman" to Juba central Equatoria State for specialized treatment. 


The incident happened when the father of the victim Mr. Agany Kit Achuil took the minor to the forest and pricked her eyes. 


The father of the minor said that, the minor was wayward and claimed that the minor has joined wrong groups which brings shame to the family that was why he had to do what he did. 


The prominent business woman who helped to airlift the minor to juba spoke to the media saying that, she condemned the actions of the minor father and urged the government to ensure that justice is served. 


“What happened to Akuot should not be allowed to happen to anybody’s child,” she said. “We have laws in this country and if anyone takes the law into his hands that is wrong.” Enoka said. 


“We call on the government and NGOs to support us in treating Akuot. It is our collective responsibility,” she implored. “The government should also make sure the person responsible should be brought to book as an example. Because after Akuot who is next?” Enoka urged. 


Gen. Daniel Justin who is also the police spokesperson said that, the investigations have been completed and soon the culprit will be arraign in the court of law. 


“This gender-based violence has become an issue these days so we are appealing to the public to please treat their children well and also for the mothers and children themselves whenever there is a case, to report it to the police,” he advised. “They should not shy from reporting a case against your father or mother.”Gen. Justin said.
