‎UN, RJMEC Raise Alarm Over Stalled Peace Deal in South Sudan

‎International bodies are sounding the alarm as South Sudan's fragile peace process teeters on the edge of collapse. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) have warned of deepening divisions, rising insecurity, and stalled implementation of the 2018 peace deal. ‎ ‎A Dangerous Breakdown in Peace ‎The 2018 Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) brought hope to a nation shattered by civil war. President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday met with the Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State.


The Deputy Governor is also SPLM Chairman in the State, Col. Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime who briefed the President about the security situation and political development in the state.

 

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, Col. Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime said he informed President Kiir about the Political development after his recent visit to ten counties of the state.


Western Equatoria State, is a state in South Sudan. It has an area of 79,343 square kilometres. Its capital is Yambio. 


The state was divided into counties, each headed by a County Commissioner. Western Equatoria seceded from Sudan as part of the Republic of South Sudan on 9 July 1956.
