President Kiir on Wednesday met with the Minister Of General Education And Instructions, Hon. Awut Deng Achuil to discuss progress made in the education sector. 


Hon. Awut said the Ministry has undertaken steps to transform education system to meet standard across the country. 


The Minister said the Ministry of General Education has welcomed the announcement of free education by the President adding that it will eradicate illiteracy rate and promote Girl Child education. 


She also stated that the increment of teachers salaries will motivate them to provide quality education in schools.


Education in South Sudan is modelled after the educational system of the Republic of Sudan. Primary education consists of eight years, followed by four years of secondary education, and then four years of university instruction; the 8 + 4 + 4 system, in place since 1990.
