Nineteen '19' year old woman committed suicide in Lakes State, Rumbek East County

  The local police of Lakes State confirmed that a 19 year old woman committed suicide in the County of Rumbek East in the village of Meen-Wal and the police withheld the deceased name for unknown reason.  This is not the first time for the young girls to commit suicide in the State, the first case was reported to the authorities  two days ago after a young girl committed suicide in Wulu County.  While speaking to the Media, Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makwach said that, the police are conducting thorough investigation on why there is a rampant rise of suicide amongst girls in Lakes State.  “We have recorded several cases of suicide with the most recent being a 19-year-old girl who committed a suicide in Meen-wal village in Rumbek East County and the investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the suicide because the cases are rising. President Kiir on Wednesday met with the Minister Of General Education And Instructions, Hon. Awut Deng Achuil to discuss progress made in the education sector. 


Hon. Awut said the Ministry has undertaken steps to transform education system to meet standard across the country. 


The Minister said the Ministry of General Education has welcomed the announcement of free education by the President adding that it will eradicate illiteracy rate and promote Girl Child education. 


She also stated that the increment of teachers salaries will motivate them to provide quality education in schools.


Education in South Sudan is modelled after the educational system of the Republic of Sudan. Primary education consists of eight years, followed by four years of secondary education, and then four years of university instruction; the 8 + 4 + 4 system, in place since 1990.
