Russia to Open Embassy in Juba: A New Chapter in South Sudan–Russia Relations

‎ ‎In a significant diplomatic move, the Russian Federation is preparing to open its embassy in South Sudan between September and October 2025, marking a major milestone in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations. ‎ ‎The news was confirmed by South Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Chol Tong Mayay, during a farewell event for a South Sudanese ICT delegation that recently attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025). ‎ ‎A Long-Awaited Diplomatic Presence ‎The planned opening of a Russian embassy in Juba is seen as a long-overdue development in South Sudan-Russia relations.  ‎ ‎Since South Sudan gained independence in 2011, Russia has maintained diplomatic accreditation to Juba from its embassy in Khartoum.  ‎ ‎The establishment of a permanent diplomatic mission in the South Sudanese capital is expected to significantly boost cooperation, streamline consular services, and facilitate more direct political, economic, and cultural exchanges....

President Kiir Calls For Immediate Cessation Of Hostilities And Commencement Of Peace Talks In Sudan, As The Guarantor Of Juba Peace Agreement "JPA"

President Kiir is alarmed and following with deep concern the fighting that broke out this morning in Khartoum which later spread out in other towns of Sudan


This unfortunate situation is eroding the gains of Juba Peace Agreement and endangering people's lives as well as destroying properties. 


Because of the impending catastrophic consequences of the situation president Kiir, President of South Sudan has been in closed contact with the Chairperson of Sudan Sovereign Council Gen. abdel Fatah al-Burhan and his Deputy Gen. Mohamed Hamdan to de-escalate the situation. 


As the Chief Guarantor of " Juba Peace Agreement", President Kiir urges both parties to pursue dialogue as means of conflict resolution as stipulated in the juba peace agreement 


Since the situation continues to escalate and no cessation of hostilies in sight, the Republic Of South Sudan as the guarantor of "JPA" calls for immediate cessation of hostilies. 


We also call for immediate commencement of talks between the two parties to bring this issue to final conclusion. 


That was part of the letter addressed by president Kiir to the two warring parties in Sudan.
