Police Officer Shot Dead, Gun Stolen While Guarding KCSE Exam Papers in Turkana ‎

Turkana County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi. ‎A police officer was shot dead in cold blood on Monday morning while guarding Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers in Turkana County.  ‎ The tragic incident occurred at Kang’atotha area, Turkana Central, where officers had been deployed to provide security during the ongoing national examinations. ‎ ‎According to police reports, the slain officer was part of a team assigned to escort and guard examination materials at a local school. Witnesses said the attack happened shortly after dawn when unknown assailants ambushed the officer. President Kiir on Saturday met with Vice President for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol.


In attended was the  Minister of Higher Education Gabriel Changson Chang and Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dier Tong Ngor to discuss the issue of unpaid salary arrears of both non-academic and academic staff in the Public Universities.


In his remarks, Vice President for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol said the government will pay salaries to all the Public Universities based on the new salary scale.


There are eight government-sponsored universities in South Sudan. Five are currently operational while three are still at the project level. There are over 35 private tertiary institutions operating in South Sudan. There are no laws governing private sponsored HEIs.
