Nineteen '19' year old woman committed suicide in Lakes State, Rumbek East County

  The local police of Lakes State confirmed that a 19 year old woman committed suicide in the County of Rumbek East in the village of Meen-Wal and the police withheld the deceased name for unknown reason.  This is not the first time for the young girls to commit suicide in the State, the first case was reported to the authorities  two days ago after a young girl committed suicide in Wulu County.  While speaking to the Media, Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makwach said that, the police are conducting thorough investigation on why there is a rampant rise of suicide amongst girls in Lakes State.  “We have recorded several cases of suicide with the most recent being a 19-year-old girl who committed a suicide in Meen-wal village in Rumbek East County and the investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the suicide because the cases are rising. President Kiir on Saturday met with Vice President for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol.


In attended was the  Minister of Higher Education Gabriel Changson Chang and Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dier Tong Ngor to discuss the issue of unpaid salary arrears of both non-academic and academic staff in the Public Universities.


In his remarks, Vice President for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol said the government will pay salaries to all the Public Universities based on the new salary scale.


There are eight government-sponsored universities in South Sudan. Five are currently operational while three are still at the project level. There are over 35 private tertiary institutions operating in South Sudan. There are no laws governing private sponsored HEIs.
