Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Peter Mayen, has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency in the upcoming 2024 elections in South Sudan.

Peter Mayen made the announcement on his social media page, urging his followers to join him in his pursuit of democracy and peace.

"As we look forward to enforce the first ever Democratic elections in South Sudanese, I am committed to Liberal Democratic Principal's, if being a President it's means someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people-their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties-someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they means by a "President", then I'm proud to say I am ready for presidential race in 2024... God Bless South Sudan," Mayen wrote.

Mayen's decision to run for presidency comes after he was fired by President Kiir from his position as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. Mayen has been a controversial figure in South Sudan's political landscape, and his firing from the ministerial position only added to his notoriety.

Despite his past controversies, Mayen believes that he is the best candidate to lead South Sudan towards a better future.

Peter Mayen also made a promise to work towards democracy and peace if he is elected as the president in 2024.

However, Mayen's candidacy has not been without its challenges. His party, the People's Liberal Party (PLP), has written several press releases informing the public that Mayen is no longer a member of their party. This development raises questions about Mayen's ability to win the presidency without the support of his former party.
