Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

Necessary Unified Forces Will Be Deployed Only After The Middle Command Of The Army Has Been Restructured And Unified

Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai, SSPDF Spokesperson said that, the unified forces will be deployed after the middle command of the army has been restricted and unified. 


According to the 2018 Peace Agreement, deployment of unified forces was part of the program, which help quell a five year deadly civil war in which nearly half a million people lost their lives, this forced the two parties to creat power sharing mechanism. 


While speaking to the media, Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai said that, the delay in deploying the Unified forces was due to the ongoing process of unifying the the middle command. 


“You know there were several steps that were to be taken in sequential order. They have to unify the middle command before they can embark on the deployment of the Necessary Unified Forces and unification of the middle command is a work in progress,” he said. “The main parties to the agreement have worked out the positions to be shared.  The principals had also been asked to submit the lists of the officers to occupy the different ranks or positions identified. Once the lists are submitted, a republican order will be for the ranks to be confirmed in the SSPDF.” Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang. 


“Once that has occurred, then the unified force will be deployed.” Maj. Gen. Ruai added.


Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, SSPDF Spokesperson said that he is expecting the whole process to end in the month of April.


“The process is ongoing and will hopefully be completed by the end of April. We are focusing on the Necessary Unified Forces that have been at the training centers for the last three years,” he explained. “The ones that have been in cantonment areas and I barracks will come in the second phase once the ones who graduated have been deployed.” Maj.
