Fear and Hope in Juba: 623 Arrested in Battle Against Gang Violence

‎ ‎Central Equatoria State (CES) security forces have arrested 623 individuals suspected of affiliation with notorious street gangs in Juba as part of a sweeping anti-crime operation across the capital . ‎ ‎The suspects are allegedly linked to high-profile gangs such as 4SG Slime, West Coast, ODA, Killers Gang, Black Devils, among others. ‎ ‎While detailed profiles of the detainees remain pending, officials emphasize the operation is in direct response to a recent surge in heinous criminal activity including a particularly disturbing gang rape in the Shirikat area of Juba, which sparked national outrage and hastened the crackdown.  ‎ ‎In the wake of the arrests, CES Governor Rabi Emmanuel Mujung has renewed calls for reformatory schools aimed at providing vocational training and rehabilitation for youth implicated in gang activities. ‎ ‎This includes proposals for a holistic strategy pairing enforcement with social and mental health support a key element raised during recent securi...

WES Governor Futuyo asks Kiir to fire TNLA Speaker Nunu Kumba, alleges she has a rebel group

Western Equatoria State Governor Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba asked the president to immediately remove the speaker of the parliament, Jemma Nunu Kumba. 


Gen. Futuyo, accuses speaker Nunu of being involved in numerous offenses including criminal projects like the tambura massacre, instigating border wars, and the killing of the chief if Agbiamamu. 


Gen. Futuyo's letter as seen by the media was addressed to president Kiir and also a copy was sent to the International Criminal Court 'ICC'. 


Gen. Futuyo accuses speaker Nunu of numerous atrocities in western Equatoria State. 


“This can be traced back to 2008 when Hon. Jemma Nunu was appointed as Governor of Western Equatoria State and she initiated a tribal downsizing of civil servants from Maridi and Mundri counties, adversely affecting the Baka and Muro ethnic groups to this day,” Futuyo charged.


Futuyo said that, during the CPA celebration speaker Nunu ordered the military to shoot and kill school going children after the children asked for their promised payments. 


“These school children had participated in several events during the celebration of the CPA and they deserved to be paid but when these school children sought their promised payments, Jemma ordered the military to shoot and kill them,” Futuyo wrote.


Governor Futuyo said that speaker Nunu is driven by divisive agenda objectively to establish a new nation for her tribe 'Azande Nation'. 


The letter also accuses speaker Nunu of being a tribal instigator in Tambura which resulted in lost of countless lives of women and children and furthermore it accuses speaker Nunu of being associated with a group known as "Ani kpi gbe" translates into "we have died enough" in Azande language. 


“In 2021, Rt. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba initiated a massacre project in Tambura between Azande and Balanda, resulting in many casualties and the displacement of thousands of women and children,” the document signed by Gen. Futuyo states, “Nunu mobilized the Avungara clan in Tambura, providing them with ammunition and funds to start the war. Several investigation committees sent to Tambura consistently report the same findings.” Futuyo wrote. 


“In 2023, Rt. Hon. Nunu initiated inter-border warfare along the borders of South Sudan, CAR, and DRC and formed a rebel group called Community Patriotic Front (CPF) in South Sudan and Ani Kpi Gbe in CAR and DRC,” Futuyo letter added.


Gen. Futuyo said that, Speaker Nunu is also seeking to establish a country for the zande people known as 'Zandeland.


“Nunu has mobilized young people from DRC, CAR, and South Sudan, where this conflict started,” Futuyo stated. 


This is a developing story and efforts to reach to reach Speaker Nunu for comment on this developing story was unsuccessful.
