Top Opposition General Joins Government Forces in South Sudan

‎A senior opposition army officer has left his group and joined the government army in South Sudan. Brigadier General Adnan Alex Boboya, who was part of the SPLA-IO (the main opposition army), said he has decided to support peace and work with the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), which is the national army. ‎ ‎Speaking in Yei River County, Gen. Boboya said, “I am doing this for the good of my people and my country. It is time for peace. We, as soldiers, should protect our communities, not fight them.” ‎ ‎Government army leaders welcomed him and encouraged other opposition fighters to stop fighting and talk about peace. ‎ ‎This comes just days after over 600 SPLA-IO soldiers also joined the government side. ‎ ‎But some people are worried that these changes could cause more problems for the peace agreement signed in 2018 between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.  ‎ ‎There are also reports that Riek Machar is being kept at home and not allowed to move...

Brigadier General. Ronnie Balya, Uganda's Ambassador to South Sudan today tabled a comprehensive nine-point plan by the Uganda government to assist South Sudan rejuvenate the current crippled economy


Uganda's Ambassador came with the nine-point plan during the recently concluded National Economic Conference in Juba yesterday on Friday. 


The Ambassador emphasized on the need of urgency in addressing the critical issues facing our nation, he further said that the tabled resolution will steer our nation towards the path of Sustainable Economic Growth


“First, on household income, every family should have a budget indicating incomes and expenditures. Have a calculation of what you are good at producing and what you will get as input and output. Every able-bodied person must participate in the market economy,” Ambassador Balya said. 


Ambassador Balya stressed the importance of healthcare and immunization, stating, 


The Ambassador further said that, “South Sudan must engage in immunization and healthcare. You need a healthy population for a country to be productive.”


He also addressd the importance of education by saying that, “Universal Primary and Secondary Education must be emphasized to defeat ignorance.”


The Ambassador also addressed on how to tackle the lack of raw products or materials for industrialization, he further said that South Sudan should establish national game parks with fully equipped infrastructure, electricity, water and roads to attract tourists and investors. 


He also urged South Sudanese leaders to explore regional and international markets to market it's produce, “Work on conducting market surveys. Look beyond domestic markets and focus on regional and global markets where your products can fetch much-needed foreign exchange.”


“Work on countrywide infrastructure development, including water transport, roads, and railways. Acquire cheap and clean energy, such as hydroelectricity, for industries and services.” he stressed that infrastructure is one of the key aspects out of the nine points he tabled. 


Hon. Balya said that the government should support it's citizens in, “production and service delivery and transparency and accountability.” 


The Ambassador concluded by saying that, “South Sudan is a landlocked country with no access to the sea to conduct trade activities overseas. East Africa’s youngest nation must adopt new approaches to recover its economy by moving away from depending on oil, which currently funds 98% of its national budget, and instead develop agriculture and its macroeconomic sectors.”
