President Salva Kiir Mayardit has traveled to New York, United States of America to participate in the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Summit agenda, “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all”.
Speaking to reporters Presidential Affairs Minister Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin said President Kiir will address the UN General assembly on the status of the implementation of the peace agreement and the steps the country is undertaking to prepare for 2024 general elections.
While in the United States, Kiir will highlight the crisis in Sudan and stress his role on how he will resolve the current crisis in the Sudan.
The President will also discuss regional issues related to the East African Community and the role South Sudan is playing in the region to promote peace and stability.
The President was seen off at Juba International Airport by the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other senior government officials.
The first session of the UN General Assembly will begin on Tuesday 19 September 2023, and all the world leaders will be in attendance.
The UN General Assembly, serves as a rallying cry to recharge momentum, for world leaders to come together, to reflect on where we stand and resolve to do more.
The UN General Assembly debate is a moment for world leaders to recommit to a vision of the future that ensures no one is left behind.
