Top Opposition General Joins Government Forces in South Sudan

‎A senior opposition army officer has left his group and joined the government army in South Sudan. Brigadier General Adnan Alex Boboya, who was part of the SPLA-IO (the main opposition army), said he has decided to support peace and work with the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), which is the national army. ‎ ‎Speaking in Yei River County, Gen. Boboya said, “I am doing this for the good of my people and my country. It is time for peace. We, as soldiers, should protect our communities, not fight them.” ‎ ‎Government army leaders welcomed him and encouraged other opposition fighters to stop fighting and talk about peace. ‎ ‎This comes just days after over 600 SPLA-IO soldiers also joined the government side. ‎ ‎But some people are worried that these changes could cause more problems for the peace agreement signed in 2018 between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.  ‎ ‎There are also reports that Riek Machar is being kept at home and not allowed to move...

South Supreme Airlines demands black box information before compensating plane crash victims

South Supreme Airlines owner demands for the 'Black-Box' data before compensating the victims of the Pieri plane crash. 


The owner of South Supreme Airlines Mr. Ayii Duang Ayii, said that he is willing to compensate the victims of the Pieri Plane Crash on a condition that the black-box be availed to him.

Mr. Duang, while addressing the media he said that, his company want to look into the cause of the plane crash from the black-box before compensating the victims of the plane crash but the court was impatient with his company. 


Mr. Duang also said that the USD 170,000 to be awarded to each victim was outrageous and the presiding judge's ruling was unfair to his company. 


“South Sudan Supreme Airlines and its administration did not say we are not going to compensate the victims, we said that the court should be patient in implementing the orders of the court,” Duang said.

Mr. Duang clarified that, his plane took some cargo to Pieri and there was supposed to be only two crew members on board and that was the sole reason for him requesting the court to allow his company to obtain information from the black box as to know the exact cause of accident. 


“We said we want to know the cause of the accident. The plane took cargo to Pieri and on its way back, there were supposed to be two crew members onboard. We told the court that we first wanted to know the cause of the plane crash from the information obtained from the black box. Let the black box tell what caused the accident.” Mr. Duang said. 


Mr. Duang also said that, he wanted to know how the passengers boarded his plane? and did they attack the captain? that was the main reason he asked for the black box but the presiding judge declined his request.

“How did the passengers enter the plane? Did they attack the captain? As South Supreme Airlines, we want the black box to first tell us the cause of the accident and we are surprised that the judge did not give us the chance and ruled out of the laws of the country,” Duang stated. 


Mr. Duang further said that, his company will abide by the ruling of the judge and his company respects the law because law is for everyone. 


“We said that the ruling of the court has no problem and we respect the law and the law is for everyone. We will respect the law and do as is needed.” Mr. Duang stated. 


Finally, Mr. Duang the proprietor of South Supreme Airlines said that, the ruling of the judge was unfair and they will continue to appeal untill a figure less than USD 170,000 can be reached. 


South Supreme Airlines Accidents and Incidents 

South Supreme Airlines Antonov an-26 caught fire and destroyed after it crashed at Wau Airport on 20th March 2017. 


On March 2nd 2021, a revived A-Let-410 crashed just after take-off from Pieri Airstrip in Juba South Sudan killing ten '10' people, the incident led to the suspension of the airline from operating by President Salva Kiir Mayardiit.
