13 Killed in Jonglei Clashes Over Disputed Fishing Ground.

‎Jonglei State, South Sudan. At least 13 people have been killed and more than 20 others injured in renewed communal clashes between the Hol and Ayual communities in Jonglei State, officials confirmed on Thursday. ‎ ‎The deadly fighting broke out on Wednesday at Bioth-Agany Fishing Island, a disputed area between Duk and Twic East counties, after armed youth from the Hol community of Duk reportedly launched an attack on the island currently claimed by the Ayual community of Twic East. ‎ ‎Twic East County Commissioner Juach Arok Juach stated that seven people from his community were killed, seven others wounded, and four remain missing. The people of Greater Pibor Administrative Area endorses President Kiir in upcoming election next year

The people of Greater Pibor Administration Area on Monday agreed to give their full support to President Salva Kiir Mayardit by endorsing him as the president in upcoming election next year election. 


The team that handed the Certificate of Nomination was led by, Area Chief Administrator Mr.Lokoli Ame Bullen, GPAA Chief Administrator said that, GPAA people will deliver it's votes to President Salva Kiir Mayardit during the coming election. 


GPAA area chief said that, he appreciated the president for consistently supporting the people of GPAA. 


The Chief also addressed the matters of insecurity in GPAA by saying that, things are calm and activities are going on without any disturbances. 


The Greater Pibor Administrative Area is an Administrative Area in South Sudan, it 


GPAA comprises the boundaries of former Pibor and Pochalla counties of Jonglei, along the Ethiopian border, in a territory mainly inhabited by Anyuak, Jie, Kachipo, and Murle people, thus strengthening the administrative divide from surrounding counties predominantly inhabited by Nuer and Dinka.


In the year 2010 an Armed Insurrection was initiated and led by David Yau Yau against the government of South Sudan which was dominated by David Yau Yau and his Cobra Faction.


In the year 2014 peace negotiation was initiated between David Yau Yau's Cobra Faction and the government of South Sudan in Addis Ababa Ethiopia that led to a compromise that carved out two counties of Pibor and Pochalla within Jonglei state to create the new semi-autonomous Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).


Oxfam Country Director earlier this year said that, humanitarian situation in GPAA is so bad because women and children are sleeping hungry. 


"The humanitarian situation in Pibor is so bad that women and children sleep in the open with empty stomachs for days. Women and children face high risk of starvation without an increase in humanitarian assistance" Oxfam Country Director statement.
