President Kiir, Museveni Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Pledge Regional Stability

President Kiir, President Museveni and VP. South Sudanese president, His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardiit today met with the UN General Secretary Mr. Antonio Guterres and they discussed about the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and the 2022 Roadmap.


Th UN Chief reiterated the importance of conducting credible elections in South Sudan in December 2024. 


The meeting also discussed the country’s progress in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.


The Secretary-General commended South Sudan’s efforts to resolve the conflict in Sudan. 


President Salva Kiir Mayardiit and Mr. Guterres further discussed the impacts of the conflict in the Sudan, on South Sudan, the sustainability of humanitarian assistance and coordinated regional and international endeavours to end the conflict.


Impacts of Sudan conflict in South Sudan. 

The Sudan conflict which began in mid April 2023 when rival military forces in Sudan clashed, the clash led to the delay of the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in South Sudan. 


The clashes in Sudan did strain the capacity of South Sudan to receive thousands of victims fleeing the violence across the northern border and could cripple the economy.
