Subject: Urgent Appeal for Prof. Akech to Prioritize Human Lives in Bentiu

Dear Prof. John Akech,

I hope this message finds you well. I write to you today with a profound sense of concern and a plea for reconsideration. It has come to my attention that you have expressed disagreement with the proposal to dredge the Naam River in order to protect the lives of the people of Bentiu. I find it deeply troubling that you seemingly prioritize the preservation of fish and other resources over the lives of your fellow human beings.

The situation in Bentiu is dire, with the loss of human lives and livestock occurring annually due to the hazardous conditions of the river. It is distressing to witness the loss and suffering endured by the community while you appear to place a higher value on the preservation of fish and resources. Is it not evident that the loss of human life should be our primary concern?

H.E. Governor Dr. Joseph Monytuil possesses firsthand knowledge of the ground reality and has deemed the dredging of the Naam River as a necessary step to ensure the safety of the people in Bentiu. As a respected professor, it is essential to acknowledge that expertise extends beyond academia. The governor's experience and understanding of the local conditions should not be dismissed lightly. Instead of engaging in a quarrel, I implore you to consider the larger picture and collaborate constructively.

The sight of lifeless bodies and animals floating in the river year after year should serve as a wake-up call to the urgency of the situation. We cannot ignore the suffering of our fellow human beings and turn a blind eye to the preventable loss of lives. As an individual with influence and expertise, you have the power to make a real difference by actively supporting measures that prioritize human lives above all else.

I challenge you, Prof. Akech, to reassess your position and realign your priorities with the basic principles of compassion and empathy. Let us not forget that our shared responsibility as human beings is to protect and preserve lives. By embracing the proposed dredging of the Naam River, you have the opportunity to save lives and alleviate the suffering of countless individuals in Bentiu.

In the spirit of open dialogue and collaboration, I urge you to engage in meaningful discussions with Governor Monytuil and other stakeholders. By embracing diverse perspectives and expertise, we can work towards a solution that addresses both the safety concerns of the people and the preservation of valuable resources.

Prof. Akech, it is imperative that we do not lose sight of our collective humanity. I implore you to reflect upon the ethical implications of your position and the profound impact your choices can have on the lives of others. Let us set aside personal differences and come together for the greater good of the people of Bentiu.

Thank you for considering this urgent appeal. I eagerly anticipate your thoughtful response and your commitment to reevaluating your position.

Sincerely,

Andrew Duop Pal Lortur
