SPLM Reaffirms Commitment to Peace, Unity, and Democratic Transition in Christmas Message ‎

Three '3' people in custody for shooting SSPDF soldier in Nadapal, Kapoeta East County

Three suspects have been apprehended for exchanging fire with South Sudan Army 'SSPDF' at the South Sudan-Kenya , Nadapal in Kapoeta East County, Eastern Equatoria State. 


Kapoeta East County Commissioner, Hon. Abdalla Angelo Lokeno said that, the suspects are currently under the custody of the police as they await trials.

While addressing the press, the Kapoeta East County Commissioner Hon. Lokeno said that, the incident happened over the weekend, a native was killed by a suspected Turkana youths so the Toposa youths went for revenge upon return they met with the Army 'SSPDF' and they started exchanging fire leaving one soldier injured. 


“A Turkana youth came and shot and killed a Toposa. The Toposa youth also went to that side of Mohila of Turkana for revenge. When they were returning, they met with soldiers, and because they did not who each other, they clashed. These soldiers were looking for one of their colleagues who got while collecting firewood,” Hon. Lokeno said.

“The soldiers clashed with the civilians who were returning from Turkana. Both sides thought the other was Turkana and one soldier was injured,” Hon. Lokeno said. 


The Commissioner further said that, the suspects have been arrested and investigations had already begun. 


“Three suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody and we are investigating them,” Lokeno added. 


Kiir pleaded with UN to uplift the arms embargo in South Sudan: President Kiir addressed the UN General Assembly and pleaded with them to uplift the arms embargo in South Sudan and his commitment to world peace.


Eastern Equatoria State Minister of Local Government and Law enforcement Agencies Hon. Peter Lokeng Lotone said that, his office was not informed of the incident that happened along the Nadapal boarder. 


“We have not heard of any clashes involving soldiers along the border and this is because the commissioner did communicate it to us,” he said. “If he was to communicate, we would have known it.” Hon. Lokeng said.

Women Activist, Amal Jane Ochieng, urged the government to intervene and thoroughly investigate the incident. 


Amal Jane Ochieng further said that, it is a good news that the suspects are under police custody and they should be given chance to explain their side of the story and the root cause of the incident?


“If the suspects were arrested, it is good. What is the root cause? Even those boys who are detained should be given a chance to explain themselves,” she said. “Let us all be accountable for whatever we do.” Jane said. 


Nadapal, is a community in the south west of Kapoeta East County, South Sudan near the border with the defunct Rift Valley province now known as Turkana County of Kenya.
