Russia to Open Embassy in Juba: A New Chapter in South Sudan–Russia Relations

‎ ‎In a significant diplomatic move, the Russian Federation is preparing to open its embassy in South Sudan between September and October 2025, marking a major milestone in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations. ‎ ‎The news was confirmed by South Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Chol Tong Mayay, during a farewell event for a South Sudanese ICT delegation that recently attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025). ‎ ‎A Long-Awaited Diplomatic Presence ‎The planned opening of a Russian embassy in Juba is seen as a long-overdue development in South Sudan-Russia relations.  ‎ ‎Since South Sudan gained independence in 2011, Russia has maintained diplomatic accreditation to Juba from its embassy in Khartoum.  ‎ ‎The establishment of a permanent diplomatic mission in the South Sudanese capital is expected to significantly boost cooperation, streamline consular services, and facilitate more direct political, economic, and cultural exchanges....

Former Western Lakes State Governor Stole Over 10 Million SSP Meant For Students After Being Sacked


Mr. William Kirjok who was the former Deputy Governor of Western Lakes State confirmed that his boss the Governor took the money which was meant for students and salary of the teachers in the state. 
The Scandal arises when teachers started to complained over unpaid incentives and the capitation grant for the students was not released by the state authorities. 

One of the Rumbek University Students Union leaders Mr Makur Gum said that the scandal have paralyzed all educational activities in the state and teachers are also sleeping of hunger.  
On his part the former governor has denied all this accusation and he is pointing fingers to the minister of finance in the state.  
The Scandal have raised concerned that it might be a scheme by the governor and his boys from the State Ministry.  
Here is a brief summary of the Capitation Grant. Capitation grant was to cater teachers’ incentives is a joint contribution from the government of South Sudan and European Union to support education sector in the country.
