Jonglei State government has said in a statement that two boys were injured by stray bullets after police shot into the air to quell a riot by secondary school students.

The incident took place this morning in Royal High School, Bor. The State Minister of Information, Atong Kuol Manyang alleges that the students had locked the main gate and some teachers inside the offices prompting the headmaster to call the police.

When the police arrived, the student hurled stones at the police causing the police to respond by firing into the air. The Minister adds that a stray bullet that was shot into the air fell onto a 10 year old boy’s foot some 200m away. A 20 year student was also shot in the thigh by a suspected stray bullet. The bullet was lodged in his thigh.
