SPLA-IO Accused of Detaining Civilian Boats, Demanding $4,000 Along Sobat River ‎

‎ Boat ferrying civilians  Nasir, Upper Nile State  ‎Authorities in Nasir County, Upper Nile State, have accused forces loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army In Opposition (SPLA-IO) of detaining civilian riverboats and demanding ransom-like payments of up to $4,000 from traders and passengers along the Sobat River. ‎ ‎According to Nasir County Commissioner James Gatwech Joak, several boats traveling from Matar in Nasir County to Malakal were intercepted by SPLA-IO soldiers in Yakuach, an area in Nyirol County, Jonglei State. ‎ ‎“Our traders paid local taxes to SPLA-IO in Mandeng before setting off. But on reaching Yakuach, they were detained again and told to pay an additional four thousand U.S. dollars,” Commissioner Gatwech said. ‎ ‎He explained that the detained boat operators and traders were reportedly held for four days while armed men demanded more payments.  ‎ Some of the passengers were women, children, and patients traveling for medical treatment in Malaka...

Juba City Council To Introduce 'Household Taxes' Without Exemptions, Collection To Be Conducted Door-to-Door

The residents of Juba City are in a for a big surprise as Juba City Council "JCC" introduced a next tax system known as "Household tax" on residential lands and commercial lands too.


The amount of the tax is yet to be specified but the tax will be introduced without exemption and it will collected "door to door" Juba City Council confirmed. 


Most residents believed the new tax will pave way for development of Juba City infrastructure and public services. 


Others are against the new tax and they are criticizing Juba City Council for bringing new tax amid the economic turmoil in the country. 


The Juba City Council officials promised to provide incentives and tax break to individuals and business who complies with the new regulations. 


Residents of Juba raised concerns on how effective will the mode of collecting the tax be in a large city like juba. 


 However, the JCC has assured the public that the collection process will be efficient and transparent, with strict measures in place to prevent any fraudulent activities.


Juba City Council officials are urging the land owners to comply with the new regulations so as to avoid fines.

    How are the houng tax those who are not given plot token while they are residing here in Juba? That is another scamming tax from Juba city council.
