Nineteen '19' year old woman committed suicide in Lakes State, Rumbek East County

  The local police of Lakes State confirmed that a 19 year old woman committed suicide in the County of Rumbek East in the village of Meen-Wal and the police withheld the deceased name for unknown reason.  This is not the first time for the young girls to commit suicide in the State, the first case was reported to the authorities  two days ago after a young girl committed suicide in Wulu County.  While speaking to the Media, Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makwach said that, the police are conducting thorough investigation on why there is a rampant rise of suicide amongst girls in Lakes State.  “We have recorded several cases of suicide with the most recent being a 19-year-old girl who committed a suicide in Meen-wal village in Rumbek East County and the investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the suicide because the cases are rising. South Sudan Government allocates over SSP280m to elections commission

The National Elections Commission has been allocated a total of 281,814,086 SSP equivalent to 282,000 Dollars in the financial budget of 2023/2024. 


When we look at last year's budget allocation, the Commission was allocated a total of 73,446,021 SSP. 


2023/2024 budget reviewed by South Sudan Media, the allocated funds also covers for the election, public outreach and educating the voters. 


The new budget require the commission to register voters, capacity building, paying of the rentals for the staffs and conduct Civic education


The Ministry of Finance and Planning has allocated SSP 179,378,131 for National Elections Commission staff wages and salaries. The approved positions in the commission, according to the proposed budget before Parliament, are 266.
