Presidents Kiir and Ruto Direct Mediation Teams to Resolve Outstanding Issues for Tumaini Initiative, Paving Way for Regional Stability

  President Kiir of South Sudan Hosting President Ruto of Kenya in J1.  President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan and Kenya’s President Dr. William Ruto have instructed their respective mediation teams to resolve any remaining issues under the Tumaini Initiative within a two-week timeframe, ahead of a final signing. This directive follows a high-level meeting in Juba, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability and strengthening bilateral ties. Kenya's National Security Advisor, Dr. Monica Juma, highlighted that the two leaders agreed to secure regional support for the Tumaini Initiative. They encouraged IGAD to mobilize resources and secure backing from the TROIKA countries to ensure the initiative's full implementation. Additionally, a key project discussed was the construction of an 11-kilometer road connecting Nadapal and Nakodok, intended to facilitate trade and movement between the nations. The Presidency in a meeting chaired by President Kiir has directed the free movement of people and services throughout the country, banning any armed group from controlling specific areas in the country.


The leadership says this is to ensure the citizens go about their daily activities without fear or any hindrances.


Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs Tut Gatluak Manime says the Presidency further directed the security organs to investigate the recent killings in the suburbs of Juba, Wunkur of Ruweng Administrative Area and along some stations along the River Nile.


The Presidency said those responsible for the heinous crimes must be held to account, warning people against engaging in harmful activities.


The country's leadership also directed the immediate deployment of the graduated members of the Necessary Unified Forces, and the start of Phase Two of the training.


The Presidency made the decisions after obtaining detailed security reports about the current situation in the country from the Director General of the Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service General Akol Kur Kooc.
