Nineteen '19' year old woman committed suicide in Lakes State, Rumbek East County

  The local police of Lakes State confirmed that a 19 year old woman committed suicide in the County of Rumbek East in the village of Meen-Wal and the police withheld the deceased name for unknown reason.  This is not the first time for the young girls to commit suicide in the State, the first case was reported to the authorities  two days ago after a young girl committed suicide in Wulu County.  While speaking to the Media, Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makwach said that, the police are conducting thorough investigation on why there is a rampant rise of suicide amongst girls in Lakes State.  “We have recorded several cases of suicide with the most recent being a 19-year-old girl who committed a suicide in Meen-wal village in Rumbek East County and the investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the suicide because the cases are rising. Residents in Mangok Payam of Aweil East County are saying they don't expect a good harvest as the crops are getting dry since it stopped raining for a long period. 


While speaking to the media, Mangok residents say they haven't received rain for more than two weeks now and that's when the disastrous drought started to badly affect the crops. 


 “We have not received rain for the last two weeks and this is the condition of our crops, therefore, this is a sign of hunger and we don't expect a good harvest this year,” one of the residents says. 


The most affected crops are sorghum, maize, okra, sesame, and pumpkin among others. However, the cultivation of groundnuts was already interrupted since they are normally grown in June and July.
