13 Killed in Jonglei Clashes Over Disputed Fishing Ground.

‎Jonglei State, South Sudan. At least 13 people have been killed and more than 20 others injured in renewed communal clashes between the Hol and Ayual communities in Jonglei State, officials confirmed on Thursday. ‎ ‎The deadly fighting broke out on Wednesday at Bioth-Agany Fishing Island, a disputed area between Duk and Twic East counties, after armed youth from the Hol community of Duk reportedly launched an attack on the island currently claimed by the Ayual community of Twic East. ‎ ‎Twic East County Commissioner Juach Arok Juach stated that seven people from his community were killed, seven others wounded, and four remain missing. Crops are drying up as scourge of drought and famine hits some parts of Aweil East County

Residents in Mangok Payam of Aweil East County are saying they don't expect a good harvest as the crops are getting dry since it stopped raining for a long period. 


While speaking to the media, Mangok residents say they haven't received rain for more than two weeks now and that's when the disastrous drought started to badly affect the crops. 


 “We have not received rain for the last two weeks and this is the condition of our crops, therefore, this is a sign of hunger and we don't expect a good harvest this year,” one of the residents says. 


The most affected crops are sorghum, maize, okra, sesame, and pumpkin among others. However, the cultivation of groundnuts was already interrupted since they are normally grown in June and July.
