Greater Equatoria Region is preparing to hold a mega rally in Juba to endorse the nomination of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit as SPLM Presidential flag bearer in the 2024 general elections.

SPLM Chairperson in Eastern Equatoria Louis Lobong Lojore, Kennedy Ganiko of Western Equatoria and Central Equatoria SPLM Deputy Chairperson Clement Kulang Gai met President Kiir on Friday to brief him on the ongoing preparations for the upcoming event.

Speaking to reporters, Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong Lojore appealed to Equatorians to come out in a big way to endorse the candidacy of the President ahead of the polls.

"We are informing SPLM members and the people of Equatoria to turn up in big numbers for the historical rally due to take place in Juba in the coming days", Lobong said.

It is worth noting that SPLM had nominated President Kiir as its sole flag bearer in the 2024 polls.

The greater Equatoria is a region of southern South Sudan, along the upper reaches of the White Nile.

Greater Equatoria Region was originally a province of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, it also contained most of northern parts of present-day Uganda, including Lake Albert and West Nile.

Greater Equatoria Region was an idealistic effort to create a model state in the interior of Africa that never consisted of more than a handful of adventurers and soldiers in isolated outposts.
