The peace monitors in South Sudan said that, the lack of adequate progress, general elections preparedness and clarity is creating uncertainty in the country.


While addressing the media, Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai, Interim Chairperson of Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commissions 'RJMEC' said that, the making of constitution and unifications of the armed forces are very critical for a successful elections.

“It is incumbent on the country’s leadership to consolidate the peace dividends to all its diverse communities through a democratic transition,” Charles said.


Maj. Gen. Charles noted that, it was important that the National Elections Acts 2012 (Amendment) Bill 2023 was passed by the TNLA lawmakers.

“an important step in realising the democratic aspirations of the people of South Sudan.” Charles noted.


Maj. Gen. Charles, gave his recommendations by saying that, the stakeholders to the peace agreement to dialogue and fast track the road map in order to ensure the timely conduct of the elections.

He also said that, 35 percent of the women must be included in the political process, also in the constitution making process and other institutions and commissions being Reconstituted.


He also urged the government to provide all the necessary resources to the security mechanisms before the completion of the deployment of the joint forces.

“Therefore, expectations are that the Parties will adhere to the Agreement, increase the pace of implementation and demonstrate tangible progress in the completion of the critical pending tasks,” Maj. Gen. Charles added.
