Nineteen '19' year old woman committed suicide in Lakes State, Rumbek East County

  The local police of Lakes State confirmed that a 19 year old woman committed suicide in the County of Rumbek East in the village of Meen-Wal and the police withheld the deceased name for unknown reason.  This is not the first time for the young girls to commit suicide in the State, the first case was reported to the authorities  two days ago after a young girl committed suicide in Wulu County.  While speaking to the Media, Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makwach said that, the police are conducting thorough investigation on why there is a rampant rise of suicide amongst girls in Lakes State.  “We have recorded several cases of suicide with the most recent being a 19-year-old girl who committed a suicide in Meen-wal village in Rumbek East County and the investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the suicide because the cases are rising. Hon. Kuol Nhomngek, is a lawmaker of the TNLA parliament he said that, he is still committed in pursuing the action he initiated against TNLA Speaker Nunu in the regional court. 


The Lawmaker, was recently suspended by the 'ABC' Assembly Business Committee on April 26.

However, he was reinstated to the TNLA parliament by Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba on August, he was suspended because of the allegations he made against TNLA Speaker Nunu. 


The lawmaker, accused the TNLA parliament speaker of embezzling $1.5 million and SSP 12 Million, and also mishandling funds meant for the East African lawmakers sports events.

Hon. Nhomngek, claimed that he was unfairly kicked out of the TNLA parliament and was never given a chance to defend himself before the assembly. 


“The case is ongoing, and the only issue is that I am currently working on securing the funds required to enable my lawyer to schedule a hearing. The hearing is expected to take place in the upcoming month. Additionally, we have a related case within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) focusing on human rights violations by members of parliament,” Nhomngek said.

“I received a notification from them stating that they will be addressing the case within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which is also considering it. They are scheduled to convene from the 23rd to the 27th of this month. The notification specifically mentioned that they will assess the same case concerning the violation of human rights. Simultaneously, the case remains pending in the East African Court. My current priority is to secure the necessary funds to gather and proceed with scheduling the hearing with my lawyer.” Nhomngek added. 


Hon. Nhomngek, hails from the SPLM-IO party, he explained that they are carefully monitoring the situation so as to prevent future Assembly speakers from repetiting the same mistake. 


“In the previous instance, the speaker did not bring the suspension for approval by the house. To avoid a recurrence of such a situation in the future, it’s crucial to understand that the ultimate authority to suspend members of parliament rests with the entire house, not solely with the speaker.” Nhomngek said.
