Russia to Open Embassy in Juba: A New Chapter in South Sudan–Russia Relations

‎ ‎In a significant diplomatic move, the Russian Federation is preparing to open its embassy in South Sudan between September and October 2025, marking a major milestone in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations. ‎ ‎The news was confirmed by South Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Chol Tong Mayay, during a farewell event for a South Sudanese ICT delegation that recently attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025). ‎ ‎A Long-Awaited Diplomatic Presence ‎The planned opening of a Russian embassy in Juba is seen as a long-overdue development in South Sudan-Russia relations.  ‎ ‎Since South Sudan gained independence in 2011, Russia has maintained diplomatic accreditation to Juba from its embassy in Khartoum.  ‎ ‎The establishment of a permanent diplomatic mission in the South Sudanese capital is expected to significantly boost cooperation, streamline consular services, and facilitate more direct political, economic, and cultural exchanges....

President Salva Kiir Mayardiit, today on Wednesday met with the new members of SPLM, SPLM is the ruling party in South Sudan. 


The new SPLM members all hailed from Uror County, Jonglei State, the new members decided to join SPLM the rulling party which is headed by president Kiir.

While addressing the media, Presidential Affairs Minister, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin said that, these comrades have endorsed the nomination of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit as the flag bearer of SPLM come 2024. 


"These comrades have endorsed the nomination of President Kiir as SPLM flag bearer in the 2024 general elections". Dr. Barnaba said.

Dr. Barnaba further said that, the new members had fully registered their membership in SPLM. 


Dr. Barnaba stressed that, their is need for service delivery in Uror County which includes road rehabilitation, health and schools among others.

SPLM Secretary General Peter Lam Both said the liberation party is working for the unity of the people of South Sudan.


Uror County, is one of the county in Jonglei State, South Sudan. It has nine payams: Pathai, Pieri, Pulchuol, Palouny, Motdit, Motot, Karam, Pajut, Weykol and Padiek.
