President Salva Kiir Mayardit Renames University of Northern Bahr el Ghazal ‎

‎President Salva Kiir Mayardit has announced the renaming of the University of Northern Bahr el Ghazal to the University of Aweil and directed the national parliament to formalize its status as a public university. ‎ ‎The announcement was made during the president’s visit to Aweil, where he pledged government support for higher education and institutional development in the region. ‎ ‎President Kiir instructed lawmakers to undertake the necessary legal procedures to ensure the newly renamed University of Aweil is fully recognized as a public university under South Sudan’s higher education framework. ‎ ‎The move is expected to strengthen access to higher education in Northern Bahr el Ghazal and enhance the university’s role in training skilled professionals to support national development. ‎ ‎Further details on the parliamentary process and implementation timeline are yet to be announced.

Central Equatoria Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has today appointed Flora Gabriel Modi as the Mayor of Juba - becoming the first woman to serve in the position since independence. 


CES Governor Adil, has also appointed Mogga Franco Wani as First Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance, Thiik Thiik Mayardit as Second Deputy Mayor for Social Service, and Emmanuel Juma Diyo as Third Deputy Mayor for Environment and Waste Management.

The governor of Central Equatoria State Hon. Emmanuel Adil Anthony also, suspended the the Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency Hon. Moro Jenesio. 


Juba City, is the only  capital city of South Sudan and largest city in South Sudan.

‎Mam Pal Denies Funding Armed Youth (White Army) Activities as Special Court Hearing Continues in Juba

  Mam Pal Dhoul, one of the accused persons in the ongoing trial involving suspended First Vice President Riek Machar and seven others, appeared before the Special Court in Juba on Friday and denied accusations linking him to the financing of armed youth activities in Nasir County. ‎Speaking through a court interpreter, Mam Pal dismissed claims made by prosecutors and a digital forensic expert that he transferred $15,000 through an individual identified as Mohammed Sherif Ahmed in Dubai to support armed groups in Nasir. ‎ ‎According to his testimony, Mohammed Sherif Ahmed is a personal friend whom he visited in India on October 5, 2024, for business-related matters. President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday received a rousing welcome in Warrap State, with thousands of residents turning out despite heavy rain and muddy conditions to greet the country's leader. ‎ ‎The president arrived at Tharkueng, the border point between Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal states, where large crowds had gathered along the Wau–Kuajok road awaiting his arrival. ‎ ‎In a gesture that drew cheers from supporters, Kiir stepped out of his vehicle and walked through the mud to greet residents, traditional leaders, government officials, and supporters who had assembled to welcome him. ‎ ‎Witnesses said men, women, youth, and elders endured hours of rainfall while waiting for the presidential convoy.
