Russia to Open Embassy in Juba: A New Chapter in South Sudan–Russia Relations

‎ ‎In a significant diplomatic move, the Russian Federation is preparing to open its embassy in South Sudan between September and October 2025, marking a major milestone in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations. ‎ ‎The news was confirmed by South Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Chol Tong Mayay, during a farewell event for a South Sudanese ICT delegation that recently attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025). ‎ ‎A Long-Awaited Diplomatic Presence ‎The planned opening of a Russian embassy in Juba is seen as a long-overdue development in South Sudan-Russia relations.  ‎ ‎Since South Sudan gained independence in 2011, Russia has maintained diplomatic accreditation to Juba from its embassy in Khartoum.  ‎ ‎The establishment of a permanent diplomatic mission in the South Sudanese capital is expected to significantly boost cooperation, streamline consular services, and facilitate more direct political, economic, and cultural exchanges....

President Salva Kiir Condemned The Recent Killing Of Civilians In Kajo-Keji County

The president Kiir Condemns the recent killing that happened in Kajo Keji County of Central Equatoria State. 

The violence between the Kajo-Keji County farmers and the cattle keepers from Jonglei State has escalated since it started last year. 

Calls by President Salva Kiir to the cattle keepers from Jonglei State to return to their state seems to have fallen into deaf ears. 

President Salva Kiir while speaking to the media through SSBCNEWS a state own television said the blood shed must end. 

Dr. Barnabas Martial, Minister in the office of the president said that “The President says he sends his condolences for those who have lost their lives in the senseless killing that happened in Kajo-Keji.” 

He further added by saying that: “He is sending condolences to all the families and said he has said that the government will see that these people will go back to where their cattle should be, so he is indeed very sad of seeing innocent people dying in this exercise.”-Dr. Barnabas. 

President Kiir aired his statement during the conclusion of Pope Francis ecumenical visit to South Sudan. 

Over the past two weeks, it is alleged that the escalating violence has resulted in, at least, 45 deaths among unarmed civilians in Kajo-Keji and Mangalla Payam.
