Police Officer Shot Dead, Gun Stolen While Guarding KCSE Exam Papers in Turkana ‎

Turkana County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi. ‎A police officer was shot dead in cold blood on Monday morning while guarding Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers in Turkana County.  ‎ The tragic incident occurred at Kang’atotha area, Turkana Central, where officers had been deployed to provide security during the ongoing national examinations. ‎ ‎According to police reports, the slain officer was part of a team assigned to escort and guard examination materials at a local school. Witnesses said the attack happened shortly after dawn when unknown assailants ambushed the officer. Journalist, Garang John Still Under Arrest As Family Member Confirmed

A Fake Facebook Post is making rounds on social media claiming that detained journalist Garang John has been released from detention, disregard the post because Garang John is still under detention as one of his family members confirmed it. 


South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation commonly known as SSBC Was the worked station of the detained journalist, he was whisked by the NSS Organs on January 16th 2023. 


The arrest of the journalist happened at a time when SSBC News journalists were being apprehended by notorious National Security Unit after a leaked footage showing president kiir in an embarrassing ordeal. 


National Security detained initially 6 Journalist from SSBCNEWS and after a week which was on 16th Jan. 2023, they detained journalist Garang John but two weeks three of the arrested journalists were released and four are still under detention including Garang John, Garang John's lawyer said. 


Facebook pages and some tabloid alleged that on 19th Feb. 2023 that Garang John was released from detention. 


A close family member of Garang John while speaking to the media said he was fine but still in custody. 


"Garang John is still in custody, we visited him. He is fine and has not yet been released," -John's Close family member said. 


While press freedom is under threat in South Sudan, journalists have faced numerous threats from security and unknown persons. Such a misleading post is a threat to journalists both active and in custody and should be treated with utmost caution before publishing or sharing.
