Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

Four Abducted Children Returned to Uppernile State, After Being Abducted By Captors From Jonglei State

Fashoda County local officials have received four abductees believed to have been abducted by captors from Jonglei State. 

While speaking to the Media, Joseph Aban Fashoda County Commissioner said that the abductees range from 10-18 years including two females.   

“Yesterday (Wednesday), the Red Cross handed over three children to us in Fashoda. One child was left behind in Malakal town with its family who lives at the PoC Site,” Aban said. 

The local officials said that the rescued abducted children are just 1% of several children abducted from Fashoda County..

Fangak County Commissioner of Jonglei State said that the return of the abducted children is a sign of serious commitments to peace. 

“As being part of the government, we decided that all the children be released. So we traced and talked to the people who brought the abductees and we learned that seven people have been brought to Fangak County. We managed to trace four through traditional chiefs," Fangak Commissioner said.

Fangak County Commissioner Mr. Biel further said that, "The four are Nyakhamisa Joseph Mayik, 18, Nyabiel Adwok Ojang, 14, John Adwok Joseph Chan, 10, and his younger brother Kwajwok. This is very important because no one should be held under captivity under our law.” he said.
