SPLA-IO Accused of Detaining Civilian Boats, Demanding $4,000 Along Sobat River ‎

‎ Boat ferrying civilians  Nasir, Upper Nile State  ‎Authorities in Nasir County, Upper Nile State, have accused forces loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army In Opposition (SPLA-IO) of detaining civilian riverboats and demanding ransom-like payments of up to $4,000 from traders and passengers along the Sobat River. ‎ ‎According to Nasir County Commissioner James Gatwech Joak, several boats traveling from Matar in Nasir County to Malakal were intercepted by SPLA-IO soldiers in Yakuach, an area in Nyirol County, Jonglei State. ‎ ‎“Our traders paid local taxes to SPLA-IO in Mandeng before setting off. But on reaching Yakuach, they were detained again and told to pay an additional four thousand U.S. dollars,” Commissioner Gatwech said. ‎ ‎He explained that the detained boat operators and traders were reportedly held for four days while armed men demanded more payments.  ‎ Some of the passengers were women, children, and patients traveling for medical treatment in Malaka...

South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) Honors Adut Salva with Bright Stars Jersey Ahead of Senegal Clash

The President of the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFA), Francis Amin, today led his executive team in a courtesy visit to Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Adut Salva, to express appreciation for her steadfast support toward the national football team, the Bright Stars.


During the meeting, Amin presented Adut Salva with a South Sudan national team jersey bearing her name a symbolic gesture recognizing her continuous encouragement and commitment to the growth of sports in the country.


“We deeply appreciate Madam Adut’s unwavering support to our national team and her inspiring role in promoting sports development across South Sudan,” said Amin after the meeting.


Adut, who has been a strong advocate for youth empowerment through sports, expressed her gratitude to the federation and reaffirmed her commitment to rally behind the Bright Stars as they prepare for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Senegal.


She is expected to join thousands of fans at Juba National Stadium tomorrow to cheer on the Bright Stars in what promises to be a highly anticipated encounter.


The match marks a significant moment for South Sudanese football, as the nation continues to build momentum on both regional and international stages.
