‎JUBA, October 14, 2025  

‎President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Tuesday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed government officials, urging them to work collectively to promote unity, peace, and development across South Sudan.

The new appointees include:

‎1. Pieng Deng Kuol – Minister of East African Community Affairs

‎2. Denay Jock Chagor – Minister of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism

‎3. Rizik Zachariah Hassan – Minister of Transport

4. ‎James Koang Chuol – Deputy Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs

‎5. Jacob Dollar Ruot – Governor of Upper Nile State

‎President Kiir also oversaw the oath-taking of Samuel Yanga Mikaya, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority, along with several Non-Executive Directors of the Bank of South Sudan, whose mandates were extended for two years.

‎During the ceremony, President Kiir described the appointments as a “call to duty”, urging the officials to prioritize the country’s interests above personal ambitions. 

‎He emphasized the need for teamwork in strengthening the national army, fostering peace, and advancing reconciliation among communities.

‎“We must place the welfare of our citizens above everything else and work as one government for the good of our nation,” Kiir said.

‎The Head of State further tasked the Civil Aviation Authority with modernizing South Sudan’s air transport infrastructure and promoting digital connectivity in line with international aviation standards.

‎Speaking on behalf of the ruling party, SPLM Third Deputy Chairman Simon Kun Puoch encouraged the newly sworn-in officials to uphold their constitutional responsibilities and drive national progress through honest and transparent governance.

‎Meanwhile, Minister Pieng Deng Kuol assured the public of his commitment to serve diligently and to represent South Sudan effectively within the East African Community (EAC) framework.

‎The officials pledged loyalty to the Constitution and promised to foster accountability, strengthen public institutions, and implement policies that improve the country’s governance and service delivery.
