Governor Dollar Ruot Relocates Office to Nasir to Boost Peace Efforts in Upper Nile

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) to remain apolitical and focus on their constitutional duties of defending the nation, protecting its citizens, and safeguarding territorial integrity.

Speaking at Bilpham Military Headquarters during a leadership handover ceremony, the President urged the army to maintain professionalism and discipline as the country continues to strengthen peace and stability.

The event marked the formal transfer of command from outgoing Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Dau Aturjong Nyuol, to the newly appointed CDF, Dr. Paul Nang Majok.
President Kiir praised Gen. Dau for his dedicated service and tasked Dr. Majok with continuing reforms aimed at transforming the SSPDF into a unified, accountable, and professional army.

“The army must never be used for political purposes. It must serve the people, defend the country, and uphold the Constitution,” President Kiir said.
He further directed the new leadership to prioritize the welfare of soldiers, foster unity, and work collectively to preserve peace and harmony across South Sudan.
According to officials at the Eagle House, the change of command demonstrates the government’s commitment to consolidating national institutions and building a modern, people-centered defence force.

Dr. Paul Nang Majok reaffirmed his loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief and promised to strengthen the army’s operational capacity and discipline.
“We will ensure the SSPDF remains focused on its mission to defend our country and uphold peace,” he stated.
