SPLM-IO Officials Arrested in Warrap as Political Crisis Deepens in South Sudan

Dr. Riek Machar  Tensions are mounting in South Sudan following the arrest of senior officials from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) in Warrap State. The detentions come just weeks after the controversial arrest of SPLM-IO leader and First Vice President Riek Machar in Juba. Among those detained in the state capital, Kuajok, are Kuec Deng Mayar, the Speaker of the Warrap State Legislative Assembly and SPLM-IO state chairperson; John Kok Deng, the state’s legal advisor; and Luka Thiony Majok, chair of the education committee. SPLM-IO spokesperson Pal Mai Deng condemned the arrests, calling them "a direct violation of the 2018 peace agreement." “These are not just politicians. They are representatives of the people. Their arrest is an attack on the very spirit of the peace deal,” Pal said in a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj. President Kiir Met With His Four Deputies To Discuss Range Of Issues Affecting South Sudan

South Sudan President met with his four deputies to discuss issues affecting the country ranging from border issues, NUF deployment and sanitation. 

The meeting was chaired by President Kiir himself and was attended by Vice President Taban Deng Gai, Rebecca Nyandeng and Hussein Abdelbagi. 

National Security Affairs Advisor, Tut Gatluak and Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel were also in attendance.

According to the press office of the president Kiir said that, the leadership of South Sudan is under scrutiny and there is need to deploy the Unified forces. 

The meeting also tackle the recent bloodsheds at Nadapal border between the Turkana of Kenya and Toposa of South Sudan which they termed it as the “recent activities of encroachment of Kenya forces in Nadapal.”

The statement from the press office stated that: “The Presidency condemned subnational violence in most of the part of the country, especially the Kajo-Keji incident, and repeated the order to the cattle keepers to return back their cattle to their place of origin and emphasised the deployment of police in the area.” 

The statement mentioned need to deploy the Unified forces to the other parts of South Sudan respectively. 

On the current border issue at Nadapal between Kenya and South Sudan, the president opted to send delegate to mediate and find an amicable solution to the violence. 

The meeting between the president and his deputies also talked about: “The Presidency also discussed cleaning of the White Nile River, starting from Bentiu to Lake No and Bentiu to Nam River in Bahr El Ghazal.”

Adler and the closure of its embassy in Washington, D.C. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Amb. Apuk Ayuel Mayen labeled the reports as “entirely without merit,” confirming that Ambassador Adler remains fully accredited and in active diplomatic engagement with Juba.  The new Foreign Minister, Monday Semaya K.  Wounded soldiers lie in bed at the general military hospital Juba.  ‎Malakal, the capital of Upper Nile State, is on edge as wounded soldiers from recent clashes in Ulang County arrive in the city, sparking fear among residents particularly from the Nuer community.  ‎ ‎The fighting, which began in February, involves the White Army, a militia group largely composed of Nuer youth, and government troops. ‎ ‎According to Maj.
